NG Bailey’s Solais House wins a British Council of Offices Award for Innovation
NG Bailey’s Solais House building, at Strathclyde Business Park, was last night awarded a coveted Innovation Award at the British Council of Offices National Awards Ceremony held in London.
The company scooped the award for the development of its Scottish HQ, which has both an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) grade ‘A’ and BREEAM Excellent rating. The judges felt that although certain individual elements of the design were very impressive, it was the all round thinking behind the development of the project that made it worthy of being crowned the winner.
Solais House was up against three other buildings, from regions across the UK - Great Portland Estate’s 160 Tooley Street – London, BDP’s 11 Ducie Street, Manchester and Defra’s Project Zebra building in Northumberland.
Every year, the cream of UK corporate real estate gather to celebrate the very best in excellent office space at this awards ceremony. One of the BCO's primary objectives is to define excellence and provide public recognition for top quality design and functionality and a benchmark for excellence in workplaces.
Colin Walker, managing director of NG Bailey’s Scottish operation, comments on the win: “We are very proud to have been selected as winner of the BCO’s Innovation Award. This is a nationally recognised event and winning the award has allowed us to prove to the UK’s construction and property elite what can be achieved in terms of sustainability, even on a standard plan office build, when a partnership approach to construction is taken.”
Stephen Lewis, development director at HF Developments, added “We are delighted at the well earned recognition Solais House has received from the BCO. From inception throughout the development process, we worked very closely with NG Bailey to develop their innovative office.
Since completion we have continued to incorporate many of the technologies used in the build into our expanding portfolio.”
The BCO acknowledges innovation and focuses external attention on examples of best practice, which fits seamlessly with NG Bailey’s ongoing drive to breathe innovation into all their projects, whether for its own estate or that of a client.
